History
Covington Township is located in Baraga County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The township has a rich history that is closely tied to the development of the region and its natural resources.
Early Settlement and Logging: Covington Township was first settled in the mid-1800s, primarily by European immigrants seeking opportunities in the timber industry. The dense forests of the Upper Peninsula were valuable for their timber, and logging became a significant economic activity in the area. Timber companies established sawmills, and the logs harvested from the forests were floated down rivers to the mills.
