During the Renaissance, Eisenerz became even more prosperous, with the Habsburgs investing in the town's mining industry and building new infrastructure. The town also played a role in the Protestant Reformation, with many of its citizens adopting the new religion. However, the town suffered greatly during World War II, with much of its infrastructure destroyed by bombing.
