Family Fun? Just Add Sparks

If you're looking for family fun you'll find it in Sparks -- Reno's neighbor to the east. It's easy to keep the kids entertained with a variety of attractions. That is if you're good at making decisions about which of the great activities to try.

Fun is exactly what you and your family will find near the Sparks Boulevard and 1-80 interchange in Sparks.

Wild Island is home to the area's state-of-the-art water park, adventure miniature golf course, Formula K Raceway and video arcade. It's wet, it's wild and kids and adults agree -- it's a blast. Wild Waters at Wild Island features death-defying speed slides, wet and winding slides, a gigantic wave pool, a relaxing lazy river, a tot activity area and Kokomo Island 21 Club with bar and spa for the adults.

Adventure Golf at Wild Island boasts two 18-hole courses and a complete game arcade. Each hole revolves around a theme, and the park's atmosphere is accented by the presence of pyramids, a haunted house, castle and waterfalls.

Wild Island's Formula K Raceway opened last summer with three race tracks for kids of all ages. There's electric cars for tiny tots, small gas powered Sprint cars and adult-sized gas powered Indy cars that lets the "oldest kids" experience real racing excitement.

No matter the season if you're in the mood to swing for the fences or lay down a few bunts then Grand Slam USA is the place for you. Located next to Wild Island, Grand Slam USA's indoor batting cages serve up varying speeds of both softballs and baseballs. There's also video games and a snack counter.

Across Sparks Boulevard from Wild Island is Factory Outlets of Nevada featuring shops with low outlet prices. Van Heusen, Leather Loft and Welcome Home are just a few names offering quality products at prices that will make your family budget smile.

Sparks Victorian Square, an endeavor of the Sparks Redevelopment Agency, gives old fashioned ambiance and charm to the nearby Sparks casinos. The Victorian-facade buildings, amphitheater, bandstand and period water fountain make for a good old-fashioned time with such diverse events as Fiesta Nevada in May; the Nugget Best-ln-The-West Rib Cook-off, Sept. 2-5; and Sparks' Annual Hometown Christmas, Dec. 2.

Getting to Victorian Square is easy. From the 1-80/US 395 interchange, take Interstate 80 east about a mile and exit on Rock Boulevard. Turn left on Rock and then right on Victorian Avenue. Victorian Square is located all along the avenue across from John Ascuaga's Nugget.
