History

Indian Harbour Beach’s history dates back to the early 20th century, when it was primarily a sleepy coastal community. The area was originally inhabited by the Ais Indians, an indigenous group that thrived along Florida's east coast, utilizing the rich natural resources of the region. However, the European influence began to take root in the late 1800s with settlers drawn to the area for its natural beauty and abundant fishing opportunities.

The city itself was incorporated in 1955, but it was first established as a resort community in the 1920s. The town's early development was slow due to the Great Depression, but post-World War II, Indian Harbour Beach began to see a population boom. The establishment of nearby military bases and the growing aerospace industry, particularly with the onset of the Space Race, attracted many workers and families to the area.
