Monterey Bay Aquarium History The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a world-renowned aquarium located in Monterey, California, USA. It was opened in 1984 and is dedicated to showcasing the diverse marine life found in the waters of the Monterey Bay, as well as promoting conservation and education about the ocean and its ecosystems. The aquarium is home to over 35,000 animals representing more than 600 species, including sea otters, penguins, sharks, jellyfish, and many more. Some of the most popular exhibits include the Kelp Forest, where visitors can observe a thriving underwater ecosystem, and the Open Sea exhibit, which features a 90-foot-long window that provides a view of schools of tuna, sharks, and other large ocean predators.
