When planning your trip to Ontario, we can help you find what you need such as road maps, local travel guides, accommodation information and more. Since the total area of Ontario is almost 675,000 square miles, for ease of reference, it is best to divide the Province into three major destination regions:

"Northern Ontario" (includes the entire area north from Parry Sound on the shores Lake Huron all the way west to the Manitoba border), "Southern Ontario" (the entire area south of Parry Sound along the shores of Lake Erie and including Niagara Falls) and "Eastern Ontario" (essentially the area east and southeast of Algonquin Park down to the north shore of Lake Ontario eastward to the border with Quebec). To help you find information about the area you plan on travelling to, our website includes links to key organizations from across the Province. Choose from the menu bar above and select the destination region you'll be travelling to.

Eastern Ontario

As the oldest settled region of the Province, Eastern Ontario is steeped in history. From the shores of the St. Lawrence River west along the north shore of Lake Ontario and including most of Algonquin Park, Eastern Ontario has a diversity of attractions and travel experiences to enjoy. There are several major destinations within this region including the beautiful Kawarthas, the wondrous Thousand Islands and of course, the St. Lawrence Seaway. Ontario's LandO'Lakes vacation region is in Eastern Ontario and so is Canada's capital city of Ottawa which is part of what is known as the National Capital Region.

Other cities in Eastern Ontario include Cornwall, historic Kingston also known as Canada's "First Capital", Haliburton, the City of Brockville, and Pembroke. Some of the major attractions in Eastern Ontario include the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Canadian War Museum, Parliament Hill and for art lovers, the National Gallery of Canada all located in Ottawa. Another "must-see" is Fort Henry in Kingston or the Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough. These are only a few examples of the many attractions to see.

Northern Ontario

With some of the largest tracts of boreal forest in North America, Northern Ontario is an adventure waiting to happen. Endless freshwater lakes span the horizon as far as one can see. If you just want to find peace and quiet or you're looking for exhilarating outdoor experiences, the north is the place to go. The fishing up here is nothing less than spectacular! Walleye, bass, muskie, northern pike and several species of trout as well as salmon can all be caught in our waterways. Hunting opportunities for game such as bear, moose and deer are excellent. For those who love the wilderness, the Canadian Shield is a natural wonder with its rock cliffs and and perpetual forests and lakes. Some of this continent's best wilderness canoe routes can be found. Northern Ontario is also the location of cities such as Kenora, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Timmins and North Bay - vacation destinations in themselves! Southern Ontario

Southern Ontario with it's big cities and rural landscapes has a wide variety of travel experiences to entertain you. In fact there are so many things to see and do it's hard to decide where to start. The number one attraction of course is beautiful Niagara Falls - a true wonder of mother nature. Another famous attraction is the CN Tower located in the City of Toronto - Canada's largest urban centre - and a city which has a rich history. Canada is the birthplace of the great game of hockey and the Hockey Hall of Fame is located in downtown Toronto. The city is home to four professional sports teams including the NHL's Maple Leafs, baseball's Blue Jays, the NBA Raptors and the CFL's Argonauts. If you love horse racing then don't miss the Saturday race schedule at Woodbine Race Track. Other urban destinations in Southern Ontario include London, Kitchener-Waterloo and Hamilton - location of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. Canada's version of "Motor City" is Windsor located across the river from Detroit. Other fun-filled urban destinations include the communities of Chatham-Kent and St. Catharines.

There is of course, much more to Southern Ontario than the big cities. The rural areas offer beautiful landscapes and this region is Ontario's "Fruit basket" with many orchards and vineyards to see. When travelling through the Niagara region, don't miss the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival which takes place every June. Theatre lovers will not want to miss the Stratford Festival or the annual Shaw Festival. You can also enjoy the beauty of nature as you travel the southern part of the Provice.
