North Carolina's Brunswick Islands are ideally suited for family vacations and weekend retreats from the hectic pace of modern lifestyles. The area consists of 10 individual communities, each with its own distinctive personality and attractions. Seven of the ten communities are situated on islands, making for an ideal coastal vacation setting. These islands are located along the southern-most strand of North Carolina's coast and feature east-west oriented beaches. This combination yields sub-tropical temperatures for year-round recreational enjoyment, along with gentle surfs and mild tides. The island strand, backed up by the Intercoastal Waterway, provides easy access to great sailing and off-shore fishing waters.

Visitors and residents alike enjoy the laid-back, relaxed atmosphere that exists throughout the area. The absence of congestion, crowds, glitz and glitter make the area reminiscent of the family beaches of a bygone era. Yet this location, while offering seclusion, also offers easy access to fun and entertainment. There are over 20 world-class golf courses, over 100 restaurants and dining establishments, two general aviation airports, over 80 antique dealers, 11 marinas, historic sites, fishing piers, and shopping centers all right here.

Plus, our location halfway between Wilmington, NC, and Myrtle Beach, SC, makes it possible to enjoy the best of both worlds. We invite you to make vacations simple, enjoy North Carolina's Brunswick Islands.

Ocean Isle Beach - Ocean Isle Beach offers 7 miles of quiet beaches and a high quality of life for its residents and visitors. Special features are the Museum of Coastal Carolina and unique shopping, as well as marinas, deep-sea fishing and canals with backyard crabbing and fishing. Well-kept cottages, homes, motels, resorts and condos make this laid-back island community very inviting to visitors and vacationers.

Bald Head Island - Truly unique among North Carolina Coastal Islands, historic Bald Head is accessible only by a private passenger ferry departing from Southport. A renown safe haven for wildlife, water fowl and loggerhead turtles, this island resort setting features natural beauty, 14 miles of unspoiled beaches, a maritime forest, world-class golf and a conspicuous absence of gasoline-powered vehicles, all overlooked by "Old Baldy", one of the Atlantic's most unique lighthouses. Visitors enjoy biking, boating, tennis, croquet, and electric golf cart transportation along with a marina, clubhouse, pools and restaurants.

Caswell Beach - Caswell Beach is one of the three Oak Island communities which share the gentle surfs and mild tides of this south-facing island. This quiet, 4-mile family beach is easily identified by Oak Island Lighthouse, located at the Oak Island Coast Guard Station. Another landmark is historic Fort Caswell, built in 1826, for which the beach got its name. The Fort is now owned by the North Carolina Baptist Assembly.

Yaupon Beach - One of the three Oak Island beaches, the quiet surf and moderate tides of Yaupon Beach have made this a favorite of families for generations. Visitors will find a friendly, small-town atmosphere with family cottages and excellent golf bordering a one-mile strand of beach.

Long Beach - Long Beach is one of three communities on Oak Island. The unique orientation of Oak Island with south-facing beaches makes for quiet surf and moderate tides. This makes Long Beach a favorite for swimmers, boaters and fishermen. Visitors will find 8 miles of beach with 52 public accesses. There's also the Long Beach Cabana with restrooms and gazebo, two fishing piers, and canoe trails.

Holden Beach - The second largest of the North Carolina Brunswick Islands. Well-established as a very relaxed family beach, this island also has long been a favorite haven for serious fishermen. Visitors will enjoy 11 miles of beach, unique retail shops, amusements and restaurants.

Sunset Beach - Sunset Beach, with its 2.5 miles of wide, snow-white beaches, huge dune ridges and marsh areas, maintains a very natural and secluded feeling. This is enhanced by the unique one-lane pontoon bridge access. Large cottages set back behind the dunes make this island a favorite haven for family gatherings and vacations. The island's name comes from the spectacular sunsets made more visible by the unusual east-west alignment of the island.

Calabash - It's hard to think of seafood in the Carolinas without this town coming to mind. Over 30 seafood restaurants, built along the docks of this quaint fishing village, feature local seafood delivered fresh off the fishing boats right to their back door. This area's particular method of preparation and cooking has become known far and wide as Calabash-style seafood. Calabash, located on the Calabash River, is the southernmost town in Brunswick County, convenient to the South Brunswick Islands, as well as neighboring Myrtle Beach.

Shallotte - Located in the heart of Brunswick County, Shallotte is the commercial hub of the North Carolina Brunswick Islands, brimming with retail shops, restaurants, office parks and support businesses. Shallotte is centrally located inland on US 17 and the four-lane bypass, putting the town approximately half-way between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, and central to all the islands, beaches, golf and other recreational activities.

Southport - Southport epitomizes the charm of an historic port city. Its 200-year-old tree-lined streets and avenues abound with vintage homes, delightful restaurants and over a dozen fascinating antique shops and historic sites, including the Maritime Museum. Southport's widely acclaimed North Carolina 4th of July Festival is one of the state's largest celebrations. Located at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, Southport's naturally sheltered harbor makes it ideal for those who enjoy sailing and off-shore fishing.

Inland Communities - The interior sections of Brunswick County offer small, progressive, growth-oriented municipalities such as Leland, Belville, Navassa, Northwest, Sandy Creek and the county seat, Bolivia. These areas are distinct differences, but share a common thread; offering services to their residents. The municipality of Leland is proud to boast the opening of one of the county's newest golf courses. Belville, Northwest, Navassa and Sandy Creek's proximity to the Cape Fear River give plenty of opportunity for scenic adventures by canoe or small boat.

The mild climate of the Brunswick Islands yields ideal conditions, not only for great golf, but also for great golf courses, more than 20 by such outstanding designers as Byrd, Cobb, Dye, Jones and Maples. The wide selection of outstanding courses, the tranquil atmosphere and the mild year-round weather combine to create the perfect golfing experience.
