History

North Palm Beach is a municipality located in Palm Beach County, Florida. Its history is closely tied to the development of the region and the vision of one man, John D. MacArthur. Here's an overview of the history of North Palm Beach:

  • Early History: The area that is now North Palm Beach was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Jaega and Seminole Indians. The Spanish explorers arrived in the 16th century, followed by British settlers in the 18th century.
  • John D. MacArthur's Vision: In the 1950s, John D. MacArthur, a wealthy insurance magnate, purchased around 2,600 acres of land in northern Palm Beach County with the intention of creating a new community. He envisioned an upscale residential area with a strong emphasis on preserving the natural environment.
  • Planned Community Development: MacArthur worked with renowned architect William Krisel to develop the community's master plan. The design incorporated waterways, canals, and an extensive marina system, allowing residents to have easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.
