The best warm-weather powder skiing in the world

Ski Apache offers skiers the largest lift capacity in New Mexico. Our 2 beginner surface lifts, 8 chair lifts and New Mexico's only Gondola are designed to accommodate over 16,500 skiers per hour. New this year is our Beginner Area Quad Chair. We have installed this new lift so that even on our busiest days, beginners will get in plenty of great skiing.

Whether you are a beginner, novice, intermediate or expert skier, Ski Apache has plenty of great trails for you. Our beginner and novice trails allow you to progress to more difficult terrain at your pace. Our novice trails prepare you for more advanced slopes. Our intermediate trails are long and wide for carving those big turns, Apache Bowl alone offers 250 acres of intermediate/expert skiing. And our black diamonds will challenge the best of skiers. Sometimes Mother Nature needs a little assistance. To ensure great skiing throughout our ski season, Ski Apache's snowmaking system covers over 35% of our skiable terrain. We make snow on a variety of trails, so that all skiers, from beginner to expert are assured of plenty of skiable terrain. Our high capacity system turns up to1 million gallons of water into fresh snow nightly. So, maybe you don't like to ski the deep powder, the 'crud' or the bumps. Maybe you are a novice skier or just someone that likes to cruise the groomed powder. Ski Apache's fleet of grooming machines start early, now 3 o'clock in the morning is early isn't it? The entire beginner area and most novice areas are groomed daily as well as selected intermediate and expert trails to give skiers of every ability level some of the silky stuff. And grooming opens up more terrain to skiers who aren't ready for the 'tough stuff'.

Ski Apache Ski School has over 100 qualified ski & snowboard instructors to help improve your skiing. We introduce more new skiers to the slopes than any ski area in New Mexico. Our new beginner quad chair offers beginners more skiing for their money. Upper level skiers will enjoy improving their overall skiing ability or may want special instruction in skiing powder or the bumps.

Ski Apache's ski rental shop has over 1,000 sets of rental skis, boots and poles. Our standard rental packages offer skis from K2 with Salomon bindings, Nordica boots and Goode poles. Our Demo packages allow you to "test drive" high performance skis from K2, Rossignol, Kastle, Dynastar and Salomon. When you rent skis from Ski Apache Rental Shop for consecutive days overnight storage is free.

The growth of snowboarding has been nothing short of phenomenal. Ever since our first snowboarder "shredded" our slopes, we have seen more and more skiers taking to the board. In fact, a lot of skiers who have had a few boarding lessons swear they will never put on another pair of skis. Ski Apache has the most terrain in New Mexico for snowboarding. All of our trails and lifts are open to both skiers and snowboarders. In addition, the Ski Apache Snowboard Shop is a full service facility offering snowboarding equipment for sale as well as rental boards, from Burton, Gnu, Kemper, killer Loop and K2, freestyle snowboard boots and apparel. Our snowboard technicians can also install new bindings, tune and wax your board.

Ski Apache is the prefect getaway for groups of all kinds. Many church, school, scouting, military and business groups come to Ski Apache year after year to ski our slopes, enjoy our beautiful scenery and to fellowship with one another. Ski Apache offers special pricing and services to groups of 25 or more skiers. In addition, several accommodation types are available at reduced rates.

Ruidoso offers a variety of lodging choices from modestly priced motels and cabins to the World Class Inn of the Mountain Gods. For RVer's there are Campgrounds with good year round accessibility.

Powder snow and lots of sunshine. Ski Apache has New Mexico's only gondola, and the highest lift capacity in the state.

To complement this beautiful mountain area, we have four (soon to be five) great golf courses in this community of 4,850 full time residents. The climate and topography of the area afford the opportunity for year round golf, yet, approximately 3,500 feet up from Ruidoso, you have the second largest downhill ski area in New Mexico that offers skiing from Thanksgiving to Easter. There are many days that you can ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon in just shirt and sweater. The following narrative will give you a coach's view of what makes each course unique./p>

Throughout history, the horse played a dramatic role in the exploration and expansion of the cultures of the world. He valiantly bore the conquistadores on his back as they explored the New World. The horse patiently pulled the plows as settlers moved into the fertile valleys of the plains. As the constant companion for the cowboy and outlaw - the horse secured a place in the romance of the West. The Museum of the Horse pays tribute to this swift, strong, gentle animal. In the richly diverse collections of the Museum of the Horse, history truly comes to life! The Museum of the Horse is located one mile east of Ruidoso Downs Race Track, on Highway 70 East, in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico.

Horses - Free Spirits the World Over: Local artist Dave McGary's graceful, free running Free Spirits at Noisy Water monument dedicated by Sam Donaldson and unveiled at the Museum of the Horse July 15, 1995, is a fitting entrance to this remarkable museum. More than any other creature, the horse has played an important role in the history and cultures of mankind. In exploration, in war, in agriculture, in transportation and in sport, horses have carried people to their greatest achievements and have served as an inspiration for countless spiritual, musical and artistic creations. Horses have helped to shape our heritage and they continue to thrill us with their speed, their beauty and their soaring spirits.

Ruidoso Downs Race Horse Hall of Fame - The Museum of the Horse is right next door to the world-famous Ruidoso Downs Race Track, home of the $2 million All American Futurity, the world's richest and most coveted of all Quarter Horse races. The Museum is now the permanent home of the Ruidoso Downs Race Horse Hall of Fame, a growing historic collection of facts and artifacts from the colorful world of horse racing. Legendary horses, famous jockeys, beautiful trophies and rare videos comprise part of this exhibit. Plus, you'll be able to mount a jockey's saddle and don the helmet and goggles in a genuine antique starting gate for another great photo opportunity! This permanent exhibit will also include material and artifacts relating to Ruidoso Downs and the winners of the All American Futurity. Horse enthusiasts of all types will enjoy this look back at some of the world's finest equine athletes.

Soon the winding pathway surrounding "Free Spirits at Noisy Water" will be paved in personalized bricks. For only $50 you can purchase a brick with your name on it. This is the perfect way to surprise the horse or art lover in your life. Now as visitors walk through this monumental sculpture, they'll also discover who the supporters of the Museum of the Horse are. Don't miss the opportunity to participate in this exciting project.

Anne C. Stradling - Born into New Jersye's wealthy Schley family in 1913, young Anne developed her passion for horses and horse-related items early. At age 6 she started her collection with a worn out bit and a single stirrup. The collection now numbers more than 10,000 pieces, many of them one-of-a-kind.

Education Fund - Education is a primary focus of Museum activities. The Museum of the Horse provides financial support for a bus fund so that all children in Lincoln County can visit the Museum. The Museum of the Horse also coordinates and provides funding for projects like the new art mural at Ruidoso High School. In a cooperative effort with the Ruidoso Public School, Eastern New Mexico University and Lincoln Cablevision, the Museum is providing internet access to the Schools. Education is an ongoing project with many exciting avenues to explore.
