History
Stetson University is a private university located in DeLand, Florida, United States. It was founded in 1883 by John B. Stetson, a hat manufacturer, as a Baptist-affiliated college.
Initially, the university was known as DeLand Academy, but in 1889 it was renamed to John B. Stetson University in honor of its founder. The university was one of the first institutions of higher education in Florida and was chartered as a university in 1930.
Stetson University has a rich history of academic excellence and innovation. In 1887, it became the first university in Florida to be accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Today, it is also accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The university has grown and evolved over the years. It has expanded its academic programs and now offers more than 70 undergraduate majors and minors, as well as graduate programs in business, education, law, and music.
