Vail Colorado Skiing

Vail boast some of the best skiing in the world, but winter isn't the only season to visit. This town has a unique blend of history, culture, festivals, sports, restaurants and music, which makes this famous Colorado town a very special world-class resort. Famous celebrities flock to Vail to ski in the winter and to vacation in the summer. Who knows what famous celebrity you might bump into walking down the street.

People-watching in Vail is free entertainment, but that's only a portion of the free things to do in this town, including outdoor concerts, musicians and festivals on the mall and streets, dance performances, window shopping, lecture series, gallery exhibitions and walking tours.

Restaurants run the gamut -- from inexpensive fare at Vail's The Daily Grind to gourmet dining at "in" the Sweet Basil.

For sports other than skiing in this mountain village, there's rafting, mountain biking, jeeping, horseback riding, paragliding and ballooning. If you like fishing, some of the best trout fishing in Colorado.

Vail Valley recently hosted the World Alpine Ski Championships this past winter on its renowned international course on Vail Mountain and the newly completed Birds of Prey course at nearby Beaver Creek.

Even before the snow melts on North America's largest ski mountain, this Alpine-style village is blooming with color -- mainly from the town's many hanging flower baskets. One of the most colorful places in Vail is the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, which contains more than 1,500 native and mountains species of plants.

At the Gerald Ford Amphitheater, visitors can be entertained with classical concerts, popular music and dance performances. The New York City Ballet, the Paris Opera Ballet and the Royal Ballet perform here.

Vail Colorado rests in the heart of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, enjoys about 340 inches of snowfall a year and offers some of the best skiing to be found anywhere in North America.

This upscale winter playground – one of the nation’s most popular resorts – has been a favorite destination for myriad celebrities and the home of former President Gerald Ford.

Don’t ski? Don’t fret. Vail Colorado, with its premier Vail lodging, offers its own special brand of charms in the off-season. Nature transforms ski and snowboard trails into opportunities for hiking and biking. Plus, there's fishing, hunting, tennis and lacrosse. You name it, it’s all here.

Along with golf courses and a wide range of gourmet restaurants and famous Vail lodging. You can ride a gondola up to Vail’s fabled Adventure Ridge, where kids can dig for long-buried bones.

Vail Co. also has plenty of activities and festivals. Vail boasts more than 100 musical performances by major-name artists from the realms of classical, jazz and popular music, along with dance troupes and family and musical theater. The Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival (June-August) features the Rochester and New York philharmonic orchestras and the Dallas Symphony.

Come wintertime, free rock, blues and gospel concerts are put on every Wednesday night, and it’s Mardi Gras time in February – Vail style. And the Vail Film Festival offers world premieres of trailblazing independent films.

The Town of Vail itself (population 8,500) offers a full range of municipal services. Vail Village – the hub of the recreational community – has a charming and enchanted feel, peppered by boutiques and art galleries catering to every taste.

There are five-star hotels, and plenty of condominium and home rentals. In all, the resort offers an estimated 32,000 guest beds, more than 120 restaurants and 200-plus shops.
