Honolulu is the capital and largest city of the state of Hawaii in the United States. The area that is now Honolulu was originally settled by Polynesians in the 12th century. However, it was not until 1809 that a trading post was established there by a merchant named Isaac Davis.

In the early 19th century, the Kingdom of Hawaii was established, and Honolulu became its capital. The city quickly became a hub for commerce and trade, with a deep-water harbor that attracted ships from around the world.

In 1898, Hawaii was annexed by the United States, and Honolulu became a major military and naval base. During World War II, Honolulu was attacked by Japanese forces in the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
