Historic Downtown Manistee, Michigan

A step back in time - Historic Manistee's River Street - through downtown to the beach, a State Historic District.

Manistee's newly completed Riverwalk running along the Manistee river is truly unique, 1.5 miles long from the US 31 drawbridge to Lake Michigan. Enjoyed by residents and tourists alike, the walk has handicapped access with restrooms available.

Along River Street, you will see small shops in restored historic buildings, riverside restaurants, antique stores, gift shops, ice cream & fudge temptations, City Marina, watch the resident ducks, swans and seagulls, or see a Great Lakes Ship passing through the river channel.

Downtown Manistee also offers the best Friday Fish Fry dinners in Michigan year-round. Of course you could catch and prepare your own fish (in season ). See our "Fishing Capital" page. There are many options for a good time in downtown Manistee.

Shopping: The charm and beauty of the 1800's comes alive in Manistee's Victorian Village shopping district. A new brew-pub and restaurant (now opened) and a Polish deli-restaurant on the Riverwalk are in the Historic Downtown.

Trolley Tours: Hourly Tours of the City of Manistee Available May thru September- Hail the trolley as it goes by, or at the terminal - on Memorial Drive. A Great way to become acquainted with Manistee.

Manistee Transportation: Dial-a-ride bus offers door to door travel throughout the county with senior and student rates.

Sail into Downtown Manistee by way of the Manistee River Channel and dock at one of the beautiful marinas.

Bikes may be rented at Manistee Cyclery, across from the City Marina on River Street. Surreys, tandem bikes are available.
