Manistee's Historic North Pier and Catwalk Dating to 1855, Manistee's Historic North Pier and Catwalk is listed on the State Register of Historic Sites and is one of only four remaining catwalks on the west Michigan coast of Lake Michigan. History & Context

Manistee's Historic North Pier and Catwalk Dating to 1855, Manistee's Historic North Pier and Catwalk is listed on the State Register of Historic Sites and is one of only four remaining catwalks on the west Michigan coast of Lake Michigan. Located at Fifth Avenue Beach in the City, it is one of the most photographed and painted sites in Michigan. Also located at Fifth Avenue Beach, the U.S. Coast Guard Station, lifeguards , playground, volleyball, tennis and beach shelter house. A favorite spot for walking, fishing and swimming,and the Fifth Avenue Beach Pavilion is available for family reunions & parties. Another favorite recreational area within the city, Douglas Park/First Street Beach has white sandy beach with a large south pier, life guards, playground, rocket park, baseball fields, picnic areas, gazebo, tennis, baskeball courts and volley ball areas. A municipal boat launching, parking, fish cleaning station, fishing from the beach and pier and if this isn't enough, the most beautiful sunsets you could hope for. The beaches, shoreline and nautical atmosphere of Manistee inspires many local artists.
