Broward County - A county located in Southeast Florida

On February 26, 1924, William F. Morang, an enterprising developer, purchased and platted the property of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea from Henry S. Moody and John C. Gregory.

Several years later, Melvin I. Anglin, a successful building contractor and real estate investor from Gary, Indiana, purchased the land platted by William Morang with the intention of developing a new town. Anglin served as the Town's first Mayor.

The Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea was originally incorporated on November 30, 1927. The incorporation was subsequently revoked in 1933 and then reincorporated in 1947 with the help of Charter Committee Chairman Glen Friedt Sr.

In 1997, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea celebrated its 50th anniversary. Due to its location on the Atlantic Ocean, the Town thrives as a tourist destination for visitors from around the world. Later this year, the Town's population will double with the annexation of the Intracoastal Beach Area, an area of unincorporated Broward County north of the Town's current municipal boundaries.

Fort Lauderdale is located in the heart of southeast Florida's Gold Coast, midway between Miami Beach and Palm Beach. The average year-round temperature is 77 degrees, with 3,000 hours of warm, soft sunshine. The average winter temperature is 66 degrees and January is the coldest month. The average summer temperature is 84 degrees with August being the warmest month. Annual rainfall is 66 inches mostly between June and October.

Lauderdale by the Sea is a wonderful place where to spend your Florida vacation. Located on the northern part of the Fort Lauderdale beach, Lauderdale by the Sea is in the center of South Florida, which ensures warm weather even during winter, beautiful sandy golden Atlantic Ocean beach and proximity to entertainment and world class shopping and dining.

While Lauderdale by the Sea is a part of the bustling and growing Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale by the Sea maintains its unique and laid back Carribean atmosphere. Lauderdale by the Sea has its own fishing pier and, unlike any other community in South Florida, has no high rises on its 1 mile long beach, with nearly all the buildings in town 2 stories high and none more than 4 stories high due to the town's building height restriction.

When you relax for a little while, it may be time to visit Miami Beach's hip South Beach or the quaint splendor of Palm Beach or see the aligators in the Everglades National Park. All these so diverse destinations are within 1 hour drive from Lauderdale by the Sea. Lauderdale by the Sea's central location on South Florida's Gold Coast also makes it the ideal base for trips to the amusement parks of Orlando, the Kennedy Space Center and Key West.
