History & Context
History Sasquatch Mountain Resort, formerly known as Hemlock Valley Resort, is a ski resort located in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, Canada. The resort is situated on the slopes of Mount Keenan in the Coast Mountains, about 120 kilometers east of Vancouver. The history of the resort dates back to the 1960s, when the area was first explored for skiing. In the early 1970s, a group of investors began developing the resort, which officially opened in 1972 as Hemlock Valley Ski Resort. The resort featured two chairlifts and several runs, and quickly became a popular destination for skiers and snowboarders. Over the years, the resort underwent several ownership changes and expansions, with additional lifts and runs added to the mountain. In 2005, the resort was renamed to its current name, Sasquatch Mountain Resort, in honor of the legendary creature said to inhabit the area.
