History & Context
Hemlock Valley Hemlock Valley Resort is a ski resort located in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. The resort has a rich history that dates back to the 1950s. In 1959, a group of investors led by Jack Spencer purchased a parcel of land in the upper valley of the Chehalis River, with the aim of developing a ski resort. They named the area Hemlock Valley after the abundant hemlock trees in the area. The first ski lift, a T-bar, was installed in 1966, and the resort opened for business the following year. The resort was an instant success, drawing skiers from across British Columbia and beyond. Over the years, the resort continued to expand, with additional lifts and runs added to the mountain. In 1981, a new high-speed quad chairlift was installed, which greatly increased the resort's capacity. In 2006, the resort was purchased by the Berezan Group, a real estate and hospitality company based in British Columbia. The new owners invested heavily in the resort, adding new facilities and upgrading existing ones.
