Cottages and other accommodations available by the week rent from Saturday afternoon to Saturday morning, and seldom for less than a full week. When writing, specify arrival time, duration of stay, number in party, with ages of children, and price range. Chatham has more shoreline and beach area than any other Cape town, but there are few accommodations on the beach. However, most any place you select will be either a short walk or drive to one or more salt or fresh water bathing areas. A word to the wise about the need for reservations. Chatham is a small, but popular, town. Especially during the busy summer season, our many fine accommodations facilities are filled to capacity. Minimize the risk with advance reservations. If, on arrival, you have a problem, stop at our Visitor Center at the intersection of Routes 137 and 28 or at the Information Booth on Main Street - we are there to help you if we can. There are no camping areas or trailer parks in Chatham.

The Chatham Aviation Display is a unique and interesting collection of Aviation material with something for everyone with an interest in Aviation. Included in the display are over 135 model airplanes from all eras of Aviation but primarily focused on World War II aircraft. In addition the collection includes many aviation art prints, posters, a plate collection and other miscellaneous Aviation memorabilia. A part of the display area includes an Aviation library with a reading area for the use of anyone who is interested in researching information on a particular aircraft or for those who would just like to browse through the books. The display has been in existence since mid-July 1997 and new items are being added on a regular basis. When you enter the display area you are greeted with the sound of Big Band music of the forties and in one corner of the room is a television playing with an aviation theme program.

Come visit us and relive your memories and past experiences. The display is located in Chatham at the Club House building of Oyster Heights Condominiums, at the corner of Depot Road and Hitching Post Road, just West of the Railroad Museum. Hours are from 1 to 4 P.M. Wednesday through Friday during the months of June through September. During the balance of the year the display may be viewed by calling Warren Edwards for an appointment. Small groups are also welcome by appointment. The display is handicapped accessible and admission is free.

The Eldredge Public Library, at 565 Main Street, is one of the most beautiful library buildings on Cape Cod. Within its three levels, visitors will find a generous selection of modern literature, local historical materials, genealogy, newspapers, magazines, videotapes, compact discs, and books on tape. The library offers borrowing privileges to visitors, and invites them to participate in programs of interest to adults and children, such as lectures, story times, films, art exhibits and special displays. Pertinent information may be secured by calling the library at 945-5170. Library hours are Tues.-Sat. 11:00 am-5:00 pm, Tues. & Thurs. 7:00-9:00 pm; closed Sunday & Monday.

The Old Atwood House at 347 Stage Harbor Road is owned by the Chatham Historical Society. This house, one of the oldest in Chatham, was erected in the days (1752) when the men who engineered the job were all subjects of His Majesty, King George the III of England. Allow 2 hours to tour this complex which includes the Durand Wing with its displays of shells, Sandwich Glass, and Parian ware. In the William Nickerson Wing, changing exhibits portray old Cape Cod life through artifacts, photos and maritime paintings. The New Gallery displays local sea captains and other individuals all painted in the 1930’s by Frederick Wight, son of Alice Stallknecht Wight. Her nationally-known Murals are housed in the annexed old Chatham Railroad freight shed. The Murals are in three large sections painted between 1932 and 1945 and include portraits of more than 130 townspeople pictured with a “modern Christ.” The Joseph C. Lincoln Room (famous Cape author) contains all his books, memorabilia and many personal objects of interest. An interesting Antique Tool Room has been set up in the basement; and now on the premises, with furnishings intact and saved from storm erosions, is an original North Beach Camp built in 1947. Hundreds of interesting antiques are included in the 14 display rooms...something for all art lovers, history buffs, students and lovers of Chatham. This Museum is a “Must See.” Atwood House Museum is open Tuesday thru Friday 1:00-4:00 pm, mid-June thru September.
